The mathematician Grigory Perelman rejected a prize for $1 million dollars from the Clay Mathematics Institute. Why did he win the prize? Perelman solved a famous and difficult mathematical problem: the Poincaré conjecture. The mathematician stated that one of its collaborators, the Columbia University mathematician Richard Hamilton, deserves the same credit than him.
Perelman has also said that the main reason why he rejected the price is due to his disagreement with the mathematical community.
